💪 “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Tim Notke
No truer words have been spoken, and I’ve seen it play out numerous times in sports and business.
🥇 This weekend, I was able to watch what happens when talent and hard work unite. @nick.dunlap10, the most recent @pgatour winner (The American Express Event), wasn’t your typical winner because he was an amateur (20 yo)! He’s the first person to win as an amateur since @PhilMickelson in 1991, but the story doesn’t end there, or really start there. He shot a 59 as a 12 yo!! Heck, I’ve shot that in just 9 holes before (a long time ago BTW 😉). He’s won the US Jr. Amateur and US Amateur, a feat only @tigerwoods accomplished, but Tiger never won a PGA tour event as an amateur. It’s important to note Tiger won three (3) US Jr. Amateurs, three (3) US Amateurs, and three (3) US Open’s. That’s insane!!! Ok, back to Nick. Nick worked hard and it wasn’t because he was told to, he was self-motivated. He’d caddie in 100-degree heat at 15 and then would run several miles to the gym for a workout afterward. I could go on, but for the sake of time, I’ll leave the rest up to your research.
💡 Three takeaways from Nick’s win.
1. Don’t let your age (young or old) determine your opportunity to accomplish anything you put your mind to.
2. Each of us has talents, it’s imperative we back them up with hard work.
3. Don’t get comfortable. We tend to get comfortable after reaching our goals, so we must continue to make new ones that keep us on track and shooting for the stars.
